Dr. Dotty Merrill
NASB Executive Director
Dr. Dotty Merrill joined the Nevada Association of School Boards as executive director in October 2006, bringing more than 35 years experience with national, state, and local educational issues affecting both K-12 schools and higher education. Merrill provides executive leadership for the Association, which represents and serves the 107 elected and appointed members of the governing boards of all seventeen Nevada school districts. Before becoming executive director of NASB, Merrill served as superintendent of Public Policy, Accountability and Assessment with the Washoe County School District. Merrill has extensive experience with charter schools, assessment to improve classroom instruction, accountability, state and federal requirements, and molding collaborative and cooperative relationships among educational communities. Before becoming a district-level administrator, Merrill taught high school English for fifteen years and served for ten years as a high school administrator. She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Nevada, Reno, a Master of Arts in English from the University of Nevada, Reno, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
Bonnie joined the Nevada Association of School Boards in October 2006 as a part-time business manager. She is currently employed full-time as an office manager/accountant for Architects + LLC for the past 17 years. She also assists various small business owners with their quarterly payroll reports, financial statements, tax planning, and preparation of their Individual Federal Income Tax Returns. Previous experience includes working fourteen years for CPA firms preparing unaudited financial statements, preparing and reviewing tax returns, with a focus on projections and estimates for individuals, corporation, and partnerships. She works closely with new client accounting and computer set-ups.
Bonnie volunteered from 2001–2007 as the Treasurer for the McQueen High School Boosters Guild. During that time she handled all of the financial responsibilities for this non-profit organization.
Bonnie lives in Reno and is married to Gary S. Kraemer who formerly served as the Chief Financial Officer for the Washoe County School District before his retirement. They have a daughter who recently graduated from the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology after completing her Ph.D.
Freelance Graphic Designer
Susan began working with the Nevada Association of School Boards in late summer 2007, assisting the Association in creating and designing the NASB website. Ms. Pittman received her certificate in Commercial Art & Graphic Design in 1993 from Platt College in Oklahoma. She then continued her education at Oklahoma City Community College and Oklahoma State University Technical Institute furthing her knowledge in Desktop Publishing and Multimedia design.
Ms. Pitman’s varied career started in Oklahoma as a Production Artist working for the Journal Records Publishing Company. She was based in the Public Relations office for the department of defense at Tinker Air Force Base. There she learned AP standards in Journalism and large print formatting. After that, she moved to Dallas, Texas, where she was the Publication Designer for Baylor University’s College of Dentistry. At Baylor, Ms. Pittman worked closely with the department heads in designing a variety of publications for the school as well as assisting staff on website designs and graphics.
She currently serves various clients in Reno and the surrounding area as well as in Texas and Oklahoma as a freelance graphic artist. She continues to produce numerous publications from college catalogs to medical publications.
Lauretta Young began working with the Nevada Association of School Boards in December 2013. Prior to that, she worked for several decades with the Washoe County School District in various positions ranging from high school principal’s secretary to District student records’ archivist.
Lauretta serves NASB as an administrative assistant, working part-time with the Executive Director on a range of projects and activities that support increasing the effectiveness of Nevada school board members. Her skills include professional editing and unique organizational strategies.
Lauretta has two grown children and two grandchildren. She is proud of her heritage as a fourth generation San Franciscan.
