The Nevada Association of School Boards is looking at new beginnings. Dr. Debb Oliver, our Executive Director who has served through a very difficult period, is resigning April 30. She is moving on to focus on her excellent work with leadership development and social-emotional learning, which we know is so critical for students today. Debb has been an advocate for school boards and effective governance statewide and we appreciate her work as our Executive Director.
The Board of Directors has hired a search firm to help the NASB Executive Committee find and recommend a new Executive Director. We expect to have a new Director no later than the beginning of August. Tom Ciesynski, NASB’s Business Manager, has been approved by the Board of Directors to act as NASB Interim Executive Director until a new executive is hired.
NASB’s advocacy and training efforts are significant ways we support school boards. This crucial work will continue through our transition as we pursue the need for adequate funding and elected school boards, no appointed school boards, and continue to resist school vouchers that draw public funds away from public education. NASB will also continue to train school boards in effective governance, leadership, and education issues.
